Transparency & Accountability

Restoring Trust in East Haven Government

Introduction

A government that hides from its residents is a government that can’t be trusted. East Haven families deserve open, honest, and accountable leadership. Transparency isn’t a slogan, it’s a responsibility.

The Problem

Too often, residents are left in the dark about how their tax dollars are being spent and how decisions are being made:

  • This administration makes residents jump through hoops to get information about where/ how town funds are spent. They force residents to request the information through FOI, then delay and stop responding in order to discourage further requests.

  • The Town Attorney tried to charge thousands of dollars to release public records on legal fees, using red tape to block residents from learning how their money was spent.

  • Major backdoor political agreements are made without clear disclosure of costs and risks to East Haven families.

  • When residents need Freedom of Information (FOI) requests just to know what their own government is doing, something is broken.

My Position

I believe East Haven’s government must belong to the people, not politicians. Residents have the right to know how every dollar is spent, who benefits, and what risks are being taken on their behalf.

MY PLAN

1. Open Records by Default: Put Town budgets, contracts, and legal expenses online in an easy-to-read format. No FOI requests required.

2. Accountability for Overspending: Require department heads to provide real-time budget reports, that can be reviewed by the public.

3. Fair Enforcement: Create clear, published policies for use of Town spaces like the Green and beaches; no political favoritism, no double standards.

Conclusion

EWhen government hides the truth, residents pay the price. As mayor, I’ll shine a light on every corner of Town Hall so East Haven residents can see clearly, ask questions, and hold their leaders accountable.
