Public Safety

Protecting Families, Strengthening Neighborhoods, and Planning for the Future

Introduction

The first responsibility of local government is to keep its people safe. Public safety in East Haven isn’t just about responding to emergencies, it’s about preventing them. Families deserve safe streets, walkable neighborhoods, strong police and fire services, and the peace of mind that town Hall is planning ahead.

The Problem

East Haven faces growing challenges to public safety:

  • Tweed expansion will increase traffic, emergency calls, and health risks without providing East Haven the resources to handle them.

  • Traffic and speeding on our neighborhood streets put children and families at risk every day.

The current administration reacts after problems appear instead of planning ahead. That puts residents and first responders in danger.

My Position

I believe East Haven must take a proactive approach to public safety. That means investing in the right resources finding grants to improve East Haven’s infrastructure, redesigning our streets for safety, and demanding outside projects like Tweed pay their fair share of the costs they create.

MY PLAN

  1. Fair Funding for Emergency Services: Ensure that any major project (like Tweed) pays into the costs of additional fire, police, and EMS staffing so residents aren’t left footing the bill.

  1. Safe Streets Initiative: Install traffic calming measures, crosswalk improvements, and better street lighting to protect children, seniors, and pedestrians in our neighborhoods.

  2. Walkable East Haven: Develop a long-term plan for sidewalks, bike paths, and pedestrian-friendly design so families can safely walk to schools, parks, and shops.

Conclusion

East Haven families deserve safe neighborhoods today and a plan that protects them tomorrow. As mayor, I’ll make sure our streets are safe for children and seniors, and our town plans ahead instead of waiting for problems to get worse.
